Director Penny Marshall [Laverne!] knew what she was doing when she dressed Madonna
as a bobby-soxer complete with saddle shoes, and had her dance in the movie!
American pop star Madonna released a cover version of the song (American Pie) in March 2000 to promote the soundtrack to her film The Next Best Thing (2000).
Although I’ve never bought any of her music, I was really impressed with her version of “American Pie” –lovely voice!
