Carrie Frances Fisher (born October 21, 1956) is an American actress, screenwriter and novelist. She is most famous for her portrayal of Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, her bestselling novel Postcards from the Edge, and her autobiography Wishful Drinking.
Fisher was born in Beverly Hills, California, the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds.
When Carrie Fisher was two, her parents divorced, and her father married actress Elizabeth Taylor. The following year, her mother married shoe store chain owner Harry Karl, who secretly spent her life savings. It was assumed from an early age that Carrie would go into the family show business, and she began appearing with her mother in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 12. She attended Beverly Hills High School, but she left to join her mother on the road.
In 1973, Fisher enrolled at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama, which she attended for 18 months. She made her film debut in the Columbia comedy Shampoo (1975) starring Warren Beatty, Julie Christie and Goldie Hawn, with Lee Grant and Jack Warden. In 1977, Fisher starred as Princess Leia Organa in George Lucas’ science fiction film Star Wars (later retitled Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope) opposite Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, a part she sarcastically claims to have obtained by sleeping “with some nerd.”

About 10 years ago i received a lovely hand written letter, with some photos delivered to my PO box, from Alice. Here is a recent email and photo from Alice:
Alice: hi, babydoll,
brie: Hello dearest darling
alice: wow, so close, yet no chance to meet. well, you were with family anyways. do they know about “brie”, or did you have to go to l.a. in male mode?
brie: (concerning my recent trip to Los Angeles) I’m like Harpo Marx, without my wig, as I am not recognized in public.
alice: glad you liked phillipe’s.
brie: Phillipe’s is a real as it gets in LA!
I got the lamb sandwich, while my father got turkey with a custard desert washed down with 10 cent coffee, and my aunt and cousin got the roast beef. Great cup of soup — nothing like fresh ingredients— and the cole slaw is the best for sure!
alice: hope you didn’t waste your time with olvera street.
brie: Actually, my father and aunt think someplace on Olvera street has great taquitos that you dip in guacamole, but I haven’t been there myself.
alice: i’ll be in laughlin, nevada, until [date deleted]. business and pleasure.
brie: Even though I used to live in Nevada, I’ve never been to Laughlin!
alice: always enjoy seeing you in that pose and dress. thanks!
